Attention!

Nearly three-quarters of Twitter is ignored.

But you already knew this.

Edit: Okay, okay, not necessarily ignored, but not responded to or re-tweeted. And let's face it, there are things that aren't going to get responses, from the tweet that is an update of someone being on the way to somewhere, or some wiseass tweeting that he's taking a dump.

I suppose I don't like Twitter because it makes people too interconnected. And yeah, this comes from someone who is on LJ, Dreamwidth, and plays four online games (WoW, CoH, LOTRO, and Minecraft). But I don't feel the need to update my life as it happens through carefully shortened phrases.

That's actually not what a lot of people use it for. There's a lot of "I just had a sandwich" but there's also a ton of hilarious twitter "comedians" who spit out short bits of funny.

It's also an excellent source for links to stuff.

Exactly. When I signed up, I used it for updates of my day. Same as when I signed up for LJ, I wrote "wot I did today" posts a lot.

Most people drifted away from that, and now it's all about the conversation, with link sharing and just general chatter working well. I find it good at times, especially if I'm away from home travelling or something, because it's a nice low maintenance method of being in contact with lots of friends.

That's primarily why I've stayed on it (having signed up in 2007 and gotten sort of bored by 2008) in that I have a few real life friends I never see who sort of stopped using IM/chat/etc but are active on the twatterings.
