Well now
California voters get marijuana legalization measure on the November ballot.
The measure, if passed, would allow anyone 21 years or older to possess up to one ounce of the wacky weed, and residents could grow the plant in limited quantities. You still won't be able to smoke it in public or around the young'uns, and it would still be illegal to drive under the influence of MJ or have it on school grounds (one presumes that would include universities as well as grade schools).
Of course, I fully expect that the opponents of the measure will bring out the standard scare tactics and over-reactions.

Yes, it would really only require a few as a scare tactic, but again, I'd like to think that if it passes, the local DEA types would say "fuck it, let's go arrest some people that no one really minds if we prosecute them" (like say, crack dealers and heroin traffickers).

People gotta get their weed someplace, and trust me, hardly anyone is gonna wanna grow their own. It's a major fucking pain in the ass.
