Yeah I read about this. I think this is largely them seizing a decent excuse not to rush this out of the door. I kind of respect it, at the same time I think this whole thing surrounding them has really been sloppy. They made no effort for some very basic security. My opinion of them is at an alltime low and I'm sure I'm not alone.
Is that unless the source was truely stolen, as in Valve doesn't have it anymore, there really isn't a reason for this delay.
Yes, their security was laughable. Not patching a Microsoft product? I can see not patching it the day it comes out, but this one was old by the status of patches.
