[WoW] I'm probably enjoying this too much

but all the Blacksmiths on the forums being butt-hurt by the lack of BoPs is making me smile.

Hrm?

[identity profile] egearman.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Linkage? And is the lack of BoPs in Wrath?

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, in BC, there were various BoP items that crafters could make. Weaponsmiths (depending on flavor) got things like Stormherald and so forth, there was the 3-piece epic Tailoring set (which Blizzard has since said they made too powerful) and so forth.

Apparently, Blizzard has decided to not have anything like this in Wrath. That is, most things in Blacksmithing will be BoE instead of BoP. There will be no uber-weapons like Stormherald or the like.

At least until they change their minds a few months down the road.

This, however, is causing lots of people on the forums to shit themselves in fury. Because it's "not fair" that the top of the line stuff that they can make should be BoE. Please note, that this is the same thing Engineers said about the crafted motorcycles we can make, and we were basically told to suck it up.

Hence why I smile.

Yuuuup.

Don't have a link handy, but basically, one of the Blues said that there weren't going to be epic BoPs in the crafting professions. (Although, of course, there are... they're just in Engineering.) Apparently, they're trying something different for Wrath. There will be epics in Blacksmithing. They're just going to be BoE instead of BoP.

There also, apparently, are no current plans for tiered weapons (like Stormherald), which is causing a major amount of butt-hurt among the more vocal posters on the forums.

Naturally, I'm trying hard not to enjoy the turnabout too much. And I'm failing at it.

Ah!
Am thinking of making my DK a smith (on Area 52 Horde).
I'd love to be able to share top end stuff with my pally!

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And see, you're looking at the good side of it. You won't have to skill up Blacksmithing on every toon that you want to have, say, the Tempered Titansteel Treads (http://thottbot.com/wotlk/i41392).

Good lord. I just looked at those stats. Blacksmiths have no cause to bitch about missing BoPs when they have BoEs like that.

[identity profile] halaku.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I once tried to make a Ret pally Engineer and he blew up in a cloud of LOL.

[identity profile] martinhesselius.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)

Sure they do!
See, the bitching is really "tiny dick syndrome"...

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd smack you upside the head, but I'm seriously thinking of dropping Engineering for Jewelcrafting on my Rogue.

[identity profile] egearman.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm having a hard time seeing what the problem is. Actually gives Smiths and other crafting professions something to sell.

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the butt-hurt on the forums are claiming that "waaah, it's not fair" and "waah, no one will want to pay the prices we set" and "waaah, someone will undercut us".

You know, again, all the same arguments Engineers made about the motorcycle.

[identity profile] egearman.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm wondering if I am going to need to stamina stack wearing something like this: Polar Vest (http://thottbot.com/wotlk/i43590)

[identity profile] egearman.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
If someone is undercutting them, that means that they are pricing it too high.

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe there's some Polar plate.

Why yes, there is. Icebane Chestguard (http://thottbot.com/wotlk/i43586)

See, you're looking at it thoughtfully. That's the different between you and the forum-idiots.

I don't want to hear anyone whine about a lack of BoP nifty items

[identity profile] cuddlycthulhu.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
*yawn* My main has been an alchemist since the very beginning and you know what BoP we got?

A rock.

Yes, a rock. A rock that, until BC, did nothing and even then, if you were 60, it gave stat bonuses as a trinket that made it worthless.

Then you know what Blizz did to our rocks? Made it so that we could have different flavors of the same rock.

But are the new flavors of rocks any good? Not really, no; trinkets of about the same level are better and, in the process of making the new flavor of rock the rock lost all its stat bonuses.

Psh, I wish we had more BoP items.

I'm with you. I'm an Engineer. Our stuff stops working because we get too high level for it. Or we get smoke flares. Or we get ignored for most of an expansion.

Jewelcrafting is looking a helluva lot more attractive, considering that they get trinkets that are worth a damn.

If you are going to switch, then I suggest that you find one of the free online guides that tells you how much of what you need beforehand. That way, you can get the mining done up front.

Or just go to the AH for all your needs.

Here's what I'll say about JC:

It's great for low levels. Positively absurd. The fact that a character can make a neck piece at a level lower than they can earn one questing in original WoW content is neat (and not bad stat wise) and the early rings (also attained at levels earlier before you'd get one in a quest) are also awesome.

The trinkets are great but I find that they're hard to get for the higher levels (since I think the recipes may be BoP). My JC is an alt who I don't play that much and I have a few other miners who kick him down ore for prospecting and JC so his JC is higher than his level.

JC is also pretty good for mats for leveling enchanting: everything you make is enchanted.

It's nice to know there are other people that play on my server.

Re: I don't want to hear anyone whine about a lack of BoP nifty items

[identity profile] cuddlycthulhu.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
On my server (Silverhand) I find that ore is fucking outrageously expensive and since that's what fuels prospecting going to the AH is going to be costly. Definitely suggest, especially if he's got a 70 and an epic land mount, just running around and mining the fuck out of zones.

Oh, and get the add on that includes enchanter and the jeweler (I think it's auctioneer), it'll tell you the percentage chances you'll have when you prospect ore of which gems you'll get.

[identity profile] cuddlycthulhu.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Bitches need to look at EveOnline and learn some fecking economics.

*shakes head and points up thread* I have to agree with the opinion that it's "tiny dick syndrome"

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not bad at high levels either. The Wrath trinkets they can make are head and shoulders and rest of torso above the crap Engineering is saddled with.

Then go that way. Remember, it's a game; if you're not having fun then fuck it.
