wha?
Wow. That was perhaps the biggest possible letdown for the ending of RAW.
And you could tell the crowd joined in the meh.
Mike Adamle was made the General Manager of RAW. Yes, this is just a storyline position and he's not actually booking matches (I would hope), but it is still a remarkably bad thing to do.
Here's why.
He was an absolutely shitty commentator on ECW. I could call matches better then he can, and he appears to have all the personal magnetism and charisma of a box of soap.
They spent a good chunk of the night building up to "Who is the new General Manager?" and it fell flat when Shane McMahan announced that it was Adamle. I mean, come on... there were tons of better choices.
Ric Flair, for one. He would be a great choice if WWE wanted a face as a General Manager. And I'm pretty sure he would enjoy being part of the show, even if he isn't wrestling.
If they wanted a major heel, well, I'm pretty sure Eric Bischoff isn't doing anything (or, hell, even if they couldn't or wouldn't hire him back, Shane himself would make a good heel General Manager.)
Basically, what it comes down to is this. The reaction the crowd gave at the announcement should be a sign of the poor choice that was made. You can tell how much the crowd is into the match or the storyline by the level of their reaction. If they loudly boo, or loudly cheer, it's effectively the same. It's a reaction. And that's what you want. You want the crowd to cheer for the faces and boo the heels. You expect certain stars to get a bigger reaction. (For instance, for pretty much the entire "Attitude" era, if you wanted the crowd to go apeshit, you sent out Stone Cold Steve Austin, or the Rock, whenever he was a face.)
When Adamle was announced as the General Manager, the crowd sat there. WWE didn't even bother trying to pipe in a face reaction over the sound system. There wasn't large amounts of booing, and there sure as hell wasn't cheering. There was nothing. The crowd was reacting like they had been cheated.
And they had been.

Honestly, the ECW show can only be improved now that he is no longer the color commentator for it, but as GM of RAW, he's still going to suck.
