Feb. 13th, 2010 08:50 amColumbia has a snowplow. Who knew?
Just went outside. The snow is already melting and there's only a couple inches of it in most parts as is. (A bit more in areas where it drifted, of course.) But this is the small amount of snow that it takes to paralyze this city. A lot of businesses that would normally be open today are closed. Hell, the place I work at closed last night (although it didn't affect me since I don't work Friday nights any more).
People further up the Eastern Seaboard or in Dallas would probably be a bit shocked at how little snow it takes to shut this city down, but it doesn't really snow here but once every few years, and most times there's no accumulation. (There's a report saying as much as eight inches of snow fell elsewhere in the Midlands, but I didn't see that much here in Columbia. That much snow here would have truly fucked things up.)
Still, it's nice that it snowed this winter.
