Not a good idea
May. 21st, 2009 06:13 amSoon, people may be able to carry firearms in National Parks.
Okay, I have to say, I'm against this. I have nothing against knowledgeable and trained and safety-minded people using and/or carrying firearms.
I do have problems with morons and guns. And let's face facts, there are far more morons out there then there are people who understand firearms safety. When you throw in the fact that you're going to have campers and hikers and backpackers and canoers and white-water-rafters potentially carrying guns.... oh yeah, those activities mix with firearms really well.
I mean, you know what's going to happen. Some dumbass will be on vacation in Yellowstone National Park, and end up shooting someone else over the fact that they encroached on their campsite, or were playing music a little too loud. Or some dumbass will take a pot-shot at a bear with a pistol and end up being a pic-a-nic lunch for "Yogi".
Of course, I have this tendency to assume the worst. Maybe it will be all sweetness and light, and there won't be any gun-based fatalities in National parks as a result of this.
.... yeah, I don't really believe that either.
