I awoke with a start... how long had I been with the spirits?

I rushed to the window and pried it open. On the street below, some college students were passing but.

"You there," I cried out "What day is this?"

"Election Day, you drunk old fart."

Old? Well, older then this youth, but then his words struck me. "Election day? Why, the three spirits had done it all in one night." The youth was still staring up at me. "I need you to go to the deli, and find the biggest turkey you ever saw."

"Bill O'Reilly?"

Author's note: I had been planning on doing an "Election Carol" post on this morning for some time. And then that fucker, that rank hack (hey, everyone else picks on him) Scott Kurtz beat me to it.

And there was a line to the door at 8 a.m.

Unfortunately, as McCain has an average of a 10 point lead in this state..... oh well, here's hoping Obama takes North Carolina... and Florida... and Indiana... and Missouri...

Arizona would be asking a bit much, but it would be funny as shit.

So, I went to the msnbc site to what's the what, right?

Well, most state haven't finished voting yet, so it's going to be a bit later in the night before we know anything, but they already have a couple states in red. One of them, of course, being South Carolina.

So I move the mouse over it.

1% of precincts reporting in, the current tally is McCain 44%, Obama 55%. And they're giving the state to McCain.

Now, I don't hold any illusions here. Once more of the precincts report in, McCain's numbers are sure to go up (alas). Because the man has had an average of a 10 point lead for the last couple of weeks in this state. It's just the sheer stupidity of the news sites, especially after how close the 2000 and 2004 elections were, to call a state this early.

It's also something of a double-standard. You see, I don't think anyone would be shocked if South Carolina went to McCain. I'm expecting it, and hell, I voted for Obama.

But Florida, on the other hand, has 14% of their precincts reporting in, and it's McCain 44%, Obama 56% and they're not calling that one for Obama. Okay, yes, that's almost certainly because Florida is worth almost 3 1/2 times as many electoral votes as South Carolina, AND because of the clusterfuck to the White House back in 2000.

It just annoys me.

Oh, one good note about South Carolina voting. They didn't have the Democrats and Republican lines on the electronic ballots anywhere near each other for the Presidential race. So while it's possible to not pay attention and accidentally vote for Bob Barr instead of Barack Obama, it's very improbable to vote for one of the major political parties when you meant to vote for the other one. Unless you have the DTs or something.

Possessing an ounce or less of marijuana is no longer illegal in Massachusetts.

First they allow gay marriage, and now they're slowly approaching something resembling sane drug laws?

1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.

2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.

3. Include these instructions, and share the love.
