Yeah, our state treasurer has been indicted on federal cocaine charges.

Of course, since he's a millionaire, he gets to give himself up in a couple of weeks, rather then being sent to the pokey right this damned second.

Still, it's not surprising.

Let me clarify that. I've never met Thomas Ravenel. Or if I have, I don't recall doing so. I know very little about the man. So, when I say it's not surprising that he's been indicted on criminal charges, what I mean is that it's not surprising that an elected official is a criminal.

I mean, I'm pretty fucking cynical, and I'm to the point where it's "Yeah, whatever" whenever I hear about a politician being caught driving wildly, or committing vehicular manslaughter, or buying cocaine... and while the maximum sentence is 20 years and a million dollar fine, it's highly unlikely he'll be hit that hard if found guilty. (I'm betting 2-5 years, probation for another 5, and $250,000.) I mean, hell, Bill Janklow only got 100 days in jail for killing someone.
