Not a big shock, but I've had to deal with just a few abusive customers at my current job. From the ones who called me a racist, to others who seem to think that if they demand an undeserved discount enough times (and loudly enough), they'll get it... well, I thought I'd seen everything.
This last Monday, the first day of 2007, I went to IHOP for some breakfast. Hey, it's close, it's relatively cheap, and it's better then anything I had at home. (Dr Pepper and a bag of Doritos is NOT breakfast.)
Shortly after I'm seated, about half of a large group gets up to leave. They start disputing every little charge and some of the big ones on their bill. Then they walk out without paying for half of their order. This, gentle readers, were the 'nice' half.
The rest of the group is still finishing up their meal, swearing loudly at each other over ownership of a phone, or a phone card, or both. Thankfully, no children were present. (I may not like kids, but they don't need to be exposed to the word "Fuck" that many times on an early morning.)
If that had been it, I wouldn't be posting this. This wouldn't be the first time I've seen people argue at an IHOP. But then they start in on their waitress (who happens to be the same person serving me.) They start yelling profanities at her, don't tip, and one of the ladies in the customers-from-Hell group looks like she's about five seconds from assaulting someone. The topper is they're the ones threatening to call the waitress's manager over all of this.
So, yeah, I'm going back to IHOP this morning to talk to a manager there and give my side of the story.
