Okay, I live in an apartment building. Built into the apartment building's bottom floor are a few shops. There's a computer repair place (which I suspect will be closing in less then six months, as they seem to have all the business acumen of a stunned hedgehog), a tanning salon, an apparent insurance salesman (I say apparent because he is _never_ there), then the main entryway to the building. As you proceed further down the sidewalk, past the main entry, there is a bagel/sandwich/coffee shop.

This is where it gets ... odd. Bear with me. Bagel shop, right?

Okay, turn the corner. Past the bagel shop, and still built into the apartment building, there used to be a wing place called Leo's. They closed a while back, but someone is doing refurbishing, and a sign is up saying what's coming soon. (Although you can probably guess from the title of the post.) Now, past the former Leo's, and no longer part of the building is a sandwich shop called Beezer's (pretty good), a walk-up DVD store, and then another sandwich/gyro shop.

So, along half a block we have three places that will happily sell you sandwiches. What is going into where Leo's used to be? You guessed it. A sandwich shop.

Remember what I said about the business acumen of a stunned hedgehog? I think it applies here. Okay, according to the sign, it's going to be grilled sandwiches, but big whooping deal. (Okay, apparently, there's also going to be an ice cream sandwich shop in there as well, which isn't a bad idea.... also espresso bars. Or maybe it's an espresso bar. I don't think they make espresso bars along the lines of candy bars, but I don't know everything, as I will readily admit.)

Still... I just have trouble, even here in the state of perpetual DUH!, imagining someone saying "You know, there's just not enough sandwich shops in that one block. We need to fix that."

Mind you, it could be worse. It could be a Starbucks.
