Lemmings and "Which Tarot Card Are You?"
Jan. 3rd, 2003 02:49 pmAs a continuation of a previous rant against the validity of online "personality" quizzes, I offer the following. On many of the people on my friends-list LJs, they have the results of a "Which Tarot Card Are You?" test, which lacks both wit and wisdom.
1) Trying to draw any valid conclusions about one's personality from an 18 question test is facetious to the point of absurdity.
2) Even considering the remote, yet extremely unlikely possibility that such a meager test could offer a new and "profound" insight into one's psyche, it is the height of neo-Pagan foolishness to associate it with the Tarot Major Arcana, which have gone through so many redefinitions (no doubt inspired by the insipid foolishness found in much of America) that any actual link to the Tarot decks of antiquity have been lost with the latest fad. ("The Hanged Man indicates you should not get fries with your Mirthy Meal!")
3) The test itself, after careful study, by yours truly, is seriously flawed to the point where even if 1) and 2) were discounted, it still wouldn't be worth a bent penny. After taking the test myself, I received the "oracular" result that I strongly identified with the Magician card. I then proceeded to change the answers to questions, one at a time, to see what other results could occur. Most of the results, however, were the same result. For most of the questions, it does not matter what you answer.
Considering the possibility that this was coded in a flawed manner, and that the answers were not truly erased until the page was reloaded anew, I checked my previous answers on a multitude of "fresh" pages. Alas, it seems, that I am "doomed" to be the "Magician" card, as it matters not what answers I put in.
How sad. Really.
Yours truly,
