Okay, it seems like Hollywierd is trying to make movies out of practically every marketable comic-book or graphic novel (and some that aren't marketable... I'm half-convinced a She-Hulk movie is just around the corner). There's an "Iron Man" movie scheduled for 2007. "Ghost Rider" is supposed to be out then too. (Sorry, but I don't buy Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, and neither should you.)

And yes, "Watchmen". A script is being worked on.

So, it was with both great relief and a bit of sadness that I found that no movie based on Warren Ellis' "Transmetropolitan" is currently in the works. That's right. Not being worked on. You see, I can see (and have seen) movies on Batman, Superman, and other major heroes. But some things do not translate to the big screen from comics very well at all.

I don't see the City being realized at its full potential. I doubt the rampant drug use by Spider would make it into the movie. For it to stay true to the comics, it would probably end up with an "R" rating, or end up being butchered to a "PG-13".

Mind you, Patrick Stewart has said he wants to make a "Transmetropolitan" film, and I suspect that he would do a good job. Hell, Warren Ellis said Stewart would make an excellent Spider.

But most of me hopes that if it happens, it is not done by Hollywood.

jury's still out

As an avid GR / Spirits of Vegeance / Blaze fan...

Yea. I have my doubts. Some of the CGI looks tight, but I dont see him as a Blaze. Ketch maybe, but not Blaze. Not gritty or "on the road" enough look.

Im thinking they should have went with an outsider on this one..cause I just dont see anyone in Hollywood at this moment, fitting the part of Johnny Blaze. For me, the man's a damn cultural icon in the comic book community.

Oh...the She-Hulk thing. Yea scheduled for 2008.

Gods Im such a geek at times.

I thought the Iron Man project had fallen back into the fiery pits of Development Hell...

(I agree though: Patrick Stewart as Spider Jerusalem - yes; Nick cage as Johnny Blaze (or any other superhero for that matter) - *NO.)

Holy fuck on a cracker, I was kidding about the She-Hulk thing... I mean, Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick... they (Marvel) couldn't keep a comic book on her with decent sales...

As for Nicolas Cage... he's a decent actor. I've seen several movies where if he hadn't been in them, I don't know who could have taken his place. But he is neither Johnny Blaze or Dan Ketch. Hell, Ketch is supposed to be younger then Blaze (and they're brothers).

And, thankfully, CGI does not a movie make. Mind you, I have to wonder if Cage is doing the voice of the Ghost Rider as well. I should hope not, but we'll have to see. They'll probably fuck that up as well.

Marvel has reclaimed the rights from New Line Cinema and is starting over with a new script. So yeah, Development Hell. I'm guessing 2007 at the earliest will be the start of production.

And part of me wants to see Stewart play Spider Jerusalem. I mean, hell, name one other ST:TNG actor who's had a decent career outside of Trek movies. (No cheating on IMDB.) I mean, hell, Jonathan Frakes hosts (or hosted) a crappy Ripley's knock-off. Gates McFadden has done a couple TV show guest spots and not much else. Marina Sirtis is stuck in sci-fi B movies. Brent Spiner... who cares. LeVar Burton - not much either. Michael Dorn at least got to milk the Trek thing a little longer with DS:9, but after that ended, he at least got work does voice-overs for cartoons.

Stewart, I'm convinced, is the only one of them who can genuinely act.

Frakes and Sirtis did voice acting for the animated show Gargoyles. And I knew that without looking at imdb.

Spiner would have had a chance if they hadn't canned Threshold. McFadden I wouldn't have minded seeing in something else, and the rest, except for Stewart, I really don't care what they do, I'm not interested in watching.

Marvel's seriously going movie crazy... I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up doing a remake of Howard the Duck... (it worked for the Punisher...)

They're doing it because when Marvel was on the verge of collapse and sold thier major comic titles; Spiderman, XMen, Hulk, GR, FF, DD and I believe CA was part of it too (I could be wrong).
They had to go into thier lesser comics..like Iron Fist, Cage, She-Hulk and I think they're doing Captain America / Nomad movie.

Last two dont quote me on, but..that's why you're seeing the lesser comics coming into movies..

"As for Nicolas Cage... he's a decent actor. I've seen several movies where if he hadn't been in them, I don't know who could have taken his place. But he is neither Johnny Blaze or Dan Ketch. Hell, Ketch is supposed to be younger then Blaze (and they're brothers)."

Eh. I saw one picture that to me, looked like Dan Ketch..but..I concede to the rest of the argument..

Im an avid GR fan, Im happy it's getting press and movie, but Im cringing because Im hoping they dont screw it, but pragmatic knowing they will..

"And, thankfully, CGI does not a movie make. Mind you, I have to wonder if Cage is doing the voice of the Ghost Rider as well. I should hope not, but we'll have to see. They'll probably fuck that up as well."

I agree, just the graphics were really good, for the voice, I couldnt tell you. They dont have that much in the trailer..

Okay, good point. But what movies/tv shows have they been in? I mean, hell, you could probably do voice-overs.

I don't really believe it's solely limited to Star Trek actors... but they've really been typecast. When you do a show for that long... *shrug* Hopefully they made enough of a pile of cash that they're not hurting. Hell, Walter Koenig was able to get in B-movies, and then be one of the bad guys in Babylon 5.

I have done voiceovers. Just for nothing you are ever likely to hear.
